As midterm season comes to an end, we can start to think about the rest of the term ahead of us. Personally, I tend to lose a lot of motivation towards school work around this time in the term. Here are 4 tips I have found that help me motivate myself to finish the term strong.
Learn from your mistakes and successes
Now that you’re halfway through the term, you’ve probably had lots of assignments and midterms already. On some of your assessments, you may have not done as well as you had hoped. Now is the perfect time to evaluate those mistakes and consider new study techniques. Reflect on the assessments you did really well on and consider implementing the strategies you used to get those marks in your other courses.
Practice self-care
With the end of the term approaching, the pressure usually builds as we try to increase our final marks. In the midst of all the assignments and exam preparation, it’s easy to forget to take care of ourselves. It’s important to make time for our physical and mental health. Staying healthy will improve how you feel overall and will help you feel motivated to achieve your goals this term. Eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep will make the last half of your term much better.
Balance your schedule
While academic success is important, studying all the time can lead to burnout. University is all about work-life balance. Although you should make time to study, there is never shame in joining a club, hanging out with friends, or finding something else you enjoy. Making time to do the things you love will help lower your stress levels in the long-run.
Learn how you manage stress best
Managing stress can be difficult in college as you balance multiple courses, a social life, and extracurriculars. Managing your stress can mean different things for different people. For some, taking a reduced course load is beneficial, while others just need to make sure they fit a gaming night into their schedule once a week.
I hope these tips help you to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself this term. However this term ends, don’t put too much pressure on yourself! Sometimes university can be a bit of a rollercoaster, and that’s totally okay! It’s all about learning what works best for you.
